Pond 19 - 2016
Submissions are open
And the Winners are...
1st place: Neil Ellman - Reverie 2nd place: Linda Eve Diamond - Meditation 3rd place: Maril Crabtree - Protector Congratulations to Neil, Linda, and Maril, and thanks so much to everyone who entered the 2nd Annual Poetry Contest - Ekphrasis. It was a great success as the number of entries more than quadrupled over last year. And thanks to our judge Howard Richard Debs who not only did an excellent job judging but as a contest “veteran” taught me a few things! I’m a better editor for having worked with Howard. Also thanks to Elizabeth Darrow for providing the inspiration piece and Ben Loory for contributing his excellent collection as part of the prize. Read the winning entries and the judge’s commentary HERE. Finally, as is fitting for the occasion this issue is all poetry, a mini poetry-fest if you will. So enjoy a little swim in our pond and take a moment too to follow the new link under Friends of the Carp at the right. Enjoy! - Ken |

P O E M Carl Boon’s ‘Maria Espinosa’ is such a tender and expressive character sketch I found myself wanting to meet its main character and give her a hug.

P O E M Jeff Bernstein’s ‘Late Afternoon Lessons’ is a beautiful expression of love for the animal friends we have in our lives.

P O E M Don’t let Yuan Changming’s apparently funny little poem ‘The 25th Letter’ fool you. It’s as thought-provoking as it is fun to read.
